Day 21

7 April 2003

We had quite a few visitors today from all over the world, including France, Somalia, and Venezuela. Some came because they were told of this action wanted to offer support and encouragement. Others were here as tourists visiting Oregon's capitol, and stopped to express solidarity.

I am touched by these displays of common humanity from so many people. There is truly a sense that people are really pulling together during this difficult time. By fanning the flames of hope amongst ourselves, we are collectively illuminating the shadows which threaten our well-being and creating a space of love and common cause.

Many of us have found ourselves in conflict with our nearest and dearest on this issue of war on Iraq, and the community of peace has provided an invaluable network of support that has sustained us throughout times of adversity and hardship. I have found inspiration and hope from all who have shared this remarkable energy.

The front cover of the April 14, 2003 issue of The Nation had a picture of hundreds of thousands of demonstrators protesting the war. The caption read, "The World's Other Superpower". Don't forget the hope and joy in this statement, my friends. We shall overcome, someday.
