Day 5
22 March 2003
Today has been a difficult one, although our spirits are kept high by
the immense support and encouragement given us by the peaceful community
members of Salem, Portland, Albany, Eugene, Silverton and many other
communities. Difficulty arose only when we received more hostility today
than usual, although there were also moments when people approached to
open a dialogue with us. Planting seeds of peace and hope in the minds
and hearts of those attempting to reconnect with the greater good is one
of the best goals that we can hope to achieve in these troubled and
polarizing times.
The nights, although cold and wet, serve as lessons to all who gather
here about the necessity to rethink the scope of the war machine we
finance with our hard-earned tax dollars. My beautiful friends, State
Senator Frank Shields and Pastor Rebecca Wenger, have been sharing
their light and love with us faithfully every day. Rebecca is a
Methodist pastor in south Salem and Frank is a state senator who
tirelessly lobbies for a peaceful resolution to the current conflict in
Iraq. Their prayers, as well as the prayers and love from congregations
and individuals of all backgrounds have kept us in the light of
worldwide solidarity.
Within our collective consciousness is the dream of unity with one
another, and this dream draws us closer to divine oneness with the
forces that are prevailing in our world and in our universe. Let us
light the way with our songs, prayers, joys, sorrows, and memories. Let
us never forget that there is a brighter, more peaceful tomorrow in
store for us all. Linking our hearts and lives will lead us all
home.
