Day 12
29 March 2003
Last night was the first warm one we've had in the entire
time we've been out her. I awoke to a magnificent sunrise, marred only by
a paintball attach that took place sometime after we all went to sleep
this morning. I was particularly saddened by this display of hostility,
but my spirits are still high and my resolve strong. A little soap and hot
water and our space was restored with no trace of the unpleasantness that
has taken place. I was pleasantly surprised in the
late morning when I received a visit from a man that I had an interesting
dialogue with a few weeks ago. We met a Christian Coalition rally
"for America and Israel" that I attended with a few other
activists. He came to my rescue at that rally when I found myself
surrounded and isolated by a large group of angry pro-war
demonstrators. While he finds himself to be "on
the other side" of the war issue, he came down today to see if there
was anything he could do, or any way he could help
"protect" us. I was deeply touched by this display of common
humanity surmounting our ideological differences. I found that we have
much in common. and both find plenty of philosophical ground to cover in
regards to this war. Every journey begins with a first step, and every
bridge built is one less chasm between ourselves and others.
