Our Salle d'Armes
Our salle opened on May 25, 2004 as a result of the Salem
Family YMCA fencing program outgrowing the space available to it.
After a great deal of thought, planning, and research, we decided it was
time to divide and multiply, and our studio is the proud result. (SCF is
not affiliated with the Salem Family YMCA, although we do provide them
with instructors.)
Salem Classical Fencing's salle d'armes is located in what was originally a
lumber sales building at the corner of Belmont and Liberty in Salem's north downtown
area. Our 140-year-old building has a great deal of character. It also has
two 14-meter raised wooden pistes that your feet and knees will really
appreciate.
Our salle is the only single-purpose fencing studio in the
Willamette Valley. It is one of the very few dedicated fencing spaces in
Oregon outside of Portland (most fencing clubs rent space by the hour at
a local school or community center).
We have over 2,000 square feet of high-ceilinged light and airy space
devoted to the Western martial art of fencing. Our facilities include
men's and women's dressing rooms, a refrigerator/freezer, hot and cold
bottled water, and restrooms.
We maintain a friendly
and welcoming atmosphere, emphasizing respect, honor, and chivalry as we
continually improve ourselves and our fencing. And we have a lot of
fun!
Come see us at 354 Belmont NE in Salem, Oregon. Our phone number is
(503) 375-9209.
