Here are the official results for the NOVICE foil event of the Salem Classical Fencing Winter Invitational Tournament, held on Saturday, January 24, 2004 at West Salem High School in Salem, Oregon.
This event was restricted to those fencers with less than 18 months of fencing experience. Fencers who have previously taken first place in a fencing tournament are prohibited from competing in the NOVICE class. Fencers ranged in age from 11 years old to 20- and 30-somethings.
Final standings were as follows:

2nd - Elliot Swan, Salem Family YMCA
3rd - Melody Kahane, NW Academy of Arms (Eugene, OR)
4th - Melody Ortiz, Salem Family YMCA
5th - Tiffany Le Brun, NW Academy of Arms (Eugene, OR)
6th - Jared Beilby, Salem Family YMCA
7th - Murray Sampson, NW Academy of Arms (Eugene, OR)
8th - Rebecca Bassett, Tillamook Fencing (Tillamook, OR)
9th - Laura Tesler, Salem Family YMCA
10th - Keith Maine, Salem Family YMCA
Honorable mention for Best Form went to Melody Ortiz.
The event began with the fencers split into two pools of five fencers each. Each pool fenced a round robin of 5-touch, 3-minute bouts. The pools were as follows:

The top 8 advanced to the direct elimination (DE) round. Direct elimination bouts were 15-touch bouts in three 3-minute periods.
