Here are the official results for the OPEN foil event of the Salem Classical Fencing Winter Invitational Tournament, held on Saturday, January 24, 2004 at West Salem High School in Salem, Oregon.
This event was open to all fencers, regardless of fencing experience. Fencers ranged in age from 11 years old to 50-somethings.
PLEASE NOTE:
These are the corrected results. There was an error made that resulted in the data from pool B not being copied correctly into the seeding page. The error was the result of last minute changes to the pools due to fencers who did not/could not compete. As a result, all of the fencers in pool B were credited with 0 victories/bouts (significantly affecting their seeding), and the error went unnoticed.
Because of this error, the direct elimination round was incorrectly seeded. The top four and the bottom three seeds were correct, but the remaining seeds were incorrect. Thus, Brian Penrose (should have been 5th seed) and Melody Kahane (should have been 12th seed) were cut when they should have advanced to the direct elimination round (and Rod Moore and Chris Marsaglia were advanced when they should have been cut). I extend my sincerest apologies to Brian and Melody. I'm really sorry, folks....
This error probably did not significantly affect the outcome for the top four places, but it certainly affected the outcome for places 5-14. Again, I apologize to ALL of you fencers. I know how the mistake occurred, and will make sure it doesn't occur again.
